Dean of St Asaph Cathedral

The Very Revd Nigel Williams (right) was installed as Dean of St Asaph Cathedral on Saturday 17 September 2011.

A fluent Welsh speaker, Nigel was born in St Asaph and brought up in Llansannan before training for the priesthood at St Michael’s College, Llandaff and the University of Wales, Cardiff.

He was ordained in St Asaph Cathedral in the mid 1990s and prior to his ministry in Colwyn Bay has served in the parishes of Denbigh & Nantglyn, and Llanrwst and Llanddoged. Between 2004 and 2009 he served as Area Dean of Rhos.

Archdeacon of MontgomeryPeter Pike

The Venerable Dr Peter Pike became the Archdeacon of Montgomery in October 2012.

He joined the Diocese of St Asaph from the Diocese of York where he has served in four village churches east of Bridlington in the Headland Benefice.

Peter has also served in Blackburn Diocese, Lancashire as a parish priest and rural dean. Prior to ordination he taught children with special educational needs.

Married with two sons and a daughter, Peter’s interests include reading poetry, American fiction and biographies as well as a passion for rugby.

The Venerable Bob Griffiths was Installed and commissioned as Archdeacon of Wrexham on Sunday, 12 January 2014 at St Asaph Cathedral.

Bob was raised in Rhyl and has served his whole ministry within the Diocese of St Asaph.  He was trained at Bangor University and Chichester Theological College. Since his ordination in St Asaph Cathedral in 1976, he has served in parishes in Holywell, Llanfair Dyffryn Clwyd, St Asaph and latterly in the Parish of Llanrhos which, in 2009 became the Rectorial Benefice of Rhos-Cystennin covering the hinterland of Llandudno.

Combined with his parish ministry, Bob has also served as the Diocesan Youth Chaplain, Chaplain in the Territorial Army, a Hospital Chaplain, Clerical Secretary to the Diocesan Conference, Secretary to the Board of Nomination, Area Dean, and now sits on many diocesan and provincial committees including the Representative Body of the Church in Wales.

As well as being Archdeacon of Wrexham Bob is incumbent of the two small rural Parishes of Llandegla and Bryneglwys.

Archdeacon of St Asaph

Revd Canon John Lomas2The Venerable John Lomas was installed as Archdeacon of St Asaph in December 2014 having served as a Cursal Canon at the Cathedral since 2008.

Ordained in 1994, John has served his entire priestly ministry in the Diocese of St Asaph.  After serving his curacy in Rhyl and spending ten years as Vicar of Holywell, John served as Transition Missioner for the Diocese, helping parishes in interregnum to consider positive ways forward.

DianeMcCarthyMrs Diane McCarthy was appointed as Diocesan Secretary in 2009, after a career with Marks and Spencer. She heads up the administration of the Diocese, based at the Diocesan Office in St Asaph.

Diane is an active member of the parish church in Rhydymwyn, near Mold, and has been a church warden, and PCC and Deanery Conference member. Originally from Cheshire, Diane went to Manchester High School before going to the University of Edinburgh to study modern languages and business studies.

After working in London in banking and retail, Diane joined Marks and Spencer, with whom she had a number of roles across the country, including store management, area management and financial control. Diane is married, with three children.
