New priest welcomed for Connah’s Quay

A new priest for Connah’s Quay has been licensed by the Bishop of St Asaph the Rt Revd Gregory Cameron.

The Revd Alexier (Alex) Mayes will be responsible for the churches of St David and St Mark in Borderlands Mission Area.

2018 is proving to be a busy year for Alex.  As well as her move to Connah’s Quay, Alex is busy planning her marriage to George Bearwood which will take place in September in St. Asaph Cathedral.

Bishop Gregory Cameron said: ‘Alexier is a priest who brings great enthusiasm and fresh ideas to her ministry. I am sure the people of Connah’s Quay will take her to their heart and I wish her and her fiancé, George, every blessing as they begin a new chapter in life.’

Alex, who is originally from Timperley near Manchester, previously worked in the area as a curate in the Bistre group of churches, before moving to Montgomeryshire in 2014 as priest for the churches in Dolfor, Kerry, Mochdre and Llanmerewig.  Before ordination in 2011 Alexier worked at Manchester Airport as Manager at the Post Office in Terminal One Arrivals.

She said: ‘I can’t wait to enable people to spread the love of God in action throughout Connah’s Quay and the Borderlands mission area.

‘I’m finding the whole challenge rather exciting as I begin to share a ministry founded on love and happiness.’

The service of licensing and welcome took place at St. Mark’s Church, Church Street, Connah’s Quay, at 1530hr on 15 April.
