A new Church in Wales Primary School has opened in Welshpool.
The English-medium Church in Wales school is formed from three primary schools in the town – Gungrog, Oldford and Ysgol Maes y dre – and will be a multi-site school, until a new building opens in Spring/Summer 2019.
Construction on land near Welshpool High School is due to begin shortly, with Dawnus Construction announced as the project contractors.
Justine Baldwin has been appointed as the head teacher of the English-medium school. She is well known to many as the former head of Gungrog VC School.
The director of life-long learning at the Diocese of St Asaph, Rosalind Williams, said: “This is a wonderful landmark in our joint plans with Powys County Council to invest in education in Welshpool.
“As the schools come together we will continue to work hard with the headteacher, governors, and parents to make sure that the children of Welshpool have the best opportunities that we can give them.”
The new school is part of a £13m investment project across all primary schools in Welshpool and includes the creation of a new Welsh-medium primary school on the site of Ysgol Maesydre.
