Work done by the MU across the Diocese

Here’s a list of some of  work undertaken by members of the Mothers’ Union across the Diocese.

Work in the Community

Helping with food banks
Shopping for the housebound
Luncheon clubs or social clubs for the elderly (supported by MU branches)
Volunteering in charity shops
Volunteering for school holiday lunch clubs

Knitting for people living with dementia

Knitting for premature baby units

Providing emergency toiletry packs for hospitals and womens refuge

Supporting Refugee centres

We are developing work at Berwyn Prison beginning with the ‘Angel Tree’ Christmas appeal


Helping at our churches

Sending baptism anniversary cards
Help with Messy Church
Church cleaning
Providing RE books for primary schools
Providing books for pupils moving up to secondary school
Assisting at the children’s area in the church
Visiting the sick
Refreshments at church events
Doing the intercessions and readings at church services
Prayer groups

The annual St Asaph Diocesan Project

We have a three year rota:

  •  Year 1 – AFIA  ‘Away from it all’  a national MU project.  During 2018 we paid for 8  families to have a holiday
  • Year 2 – a local “hands on” project

In 2017 we heard from branches who have been part of the following projects

  1. Meliden & Gwaenysgor met the children from Chernobyl and gave them gifts
  2. Rhyl, also Bistre help provide a packed lunched for children during the school holidays.
  3. Members around the Diocese have knitted trauma teddies, twiddle muffs
  4. Making story bags and helping children with their reading
  5. Local Holywell/Mold group support Syrian families placed in Flintshire
  6. Support for several Womens Refuge with toiletries, towels and bedding
  7. Buckley led a community Christmas project ‘Gifts for the homeless’
  8. Hanmer gave Scripture Union books to local school
  9. Llanasa & Gwespyr supported local Stroke Action Group
  • Year 3  –  Raising funds for an overseas project.
