Week 16 – The importance of rest for God’s people

When Mark Yaconelli spoke to us at the Power of Prayer events back in the Spring, he reminded us that God considered taking regular time out for rest and refreshment to be so important that this became one of the Ten Commandments:

“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labour and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.”

This week, as the summer holiday period starts in earnest, we are asking everyone to pray that we all have the opportunity to follow that Commandment over the coming  weeks, and that we can reflect again as Christians on the importance of regular rest as we all try to respond to our call to be followers of Christ.

Power of Prayer emails will be taking a break over the summer as well and we will be taking time to consider the best way to continue to spread the message of The Power of Prayer in the future. We would be very grateful for any feedback or comments that you would like to offer.

The Power of Prayer inbox will continue to be monitored over the summer so do feel free to contact us there powerofprayer@churchinwales.org.uk
