Church remains totally committed to the 3-19 learning campus in Bala

The Church in Wales is totally committed to the development of the new 3-19 learning campus in Bala and has not ‘pulled out’ of the project.

It follows recent media coverage of suggestions by Cyngor Gwynedd that the Diocese of St Asaph had withdrawn its support.

The Director of Education and Life Long Learning, Rosalind Williams said: “We do not understand why Cyngor Gwynedd has reached this conclusion and request an urgent face-to-face meeting to resolve this misunderstanding.

“Cyngor Gwynedd has highlighted the promotion of the school as an issue but the Diocese of St Asaph is definite that this is not a reason to abandon the existing proposal and has offered various ways forward.

“The principle issue on this occasion is the site of Ysgol Beuno Sant.  Cyngor Gwynedd has made it clear that the Ysgol Beuno Sant site in its present form does not constitute part of the new school project.  However, it is perfectly possible for the Ysgol Beuno Sant site to be sold and the proceeds put towards the cost of the new school.  We estimate this figure could be upwards of quarter of a million pounds.

It is normal practice to sell former schools to invest in new sites. In this instance, this would be the Church in Wales’ contribution to a new voluntary controlled school.  The Diocese of St Asaph fails to understand why Cyngor Gwynedd would not wish to take advantage of this money.

“The Dioceses of St Asaph and Bangor are joint providers with Cyngor Gwynedd in the provision of education in South Meirionnydd.  The Diocese of St Asaph has worked in partnership with Cyngor Gwynedd on this project in Bala to ensure that it is sensitive to the language and Christian traditions of the area.

“In all its correspondence with Cyngor Gwynedd, the Diocese of St Asaph has stressed its wish to work collaboratively and has repeatedly asked to meet with officials.  The Diocese of Asaph does not understand why this has not been possible.

“The Church in Wales now urge Cyngor Gwynedd to meet with the Diocese of St Asaph at the earliest opportunity this week to resolve this misunderstanding so we can all refocus on delivering a successful project for the young people and community of Bala.”

Datganiad gan yr Eglwys yng Nghymru ynglŷn â phrosiect campws dysgu 3-19 yn Y Bala

Mae’r Eglwys yng Nghymru wedi’i hymrwymo’n llwyr i ddatblygu campws dysgu 3-19 newydd yn Y Bala a dydy hi ddim wedi ‘tynnu’n ôl’ o’r prosiect.

Fedrwn ni ddim deall pan fod Cyngor Gwynedd wedi dod i’r casgliad hwn a gofynnwn am gyfarfod brys wyneb yn wyneb i ddatrys y camddealltwriaeth hwn.

Mae Cyngor Gwynedd wedi nodi bod hyrwyddo’r ysgol yn broblem, ond mae Esgobaeth Llanelwy yn sicr o’r farn nad ydy hyn yn rheswm i roi’r gorau i’r cynnig presennol ac wedi cynnig sawl ffordd ymlaen.

Y prif fater y tro hwn ydy safle Ysgol Beuno Sant. Mae Cyngor Gwynedd wedi’i gwneud hi’n glir nad ydy safle Ysgol Beuno Sant, ar ei ffurf bresennol, yn ffurfio rhan o’r prosiect ysgol newydd. Fodd bynnag, mae’n hi’n gwbl bosib gwerthu safle Ysgol Beuno Sant a’r elw i fynd at gost ysgol newydd. Yn ôl ein hamcangyfrif ninnau, gall y ffigwr hwn fod dros chwarter miliwn o bunnoedd.

Mae hi’n arfer cyffredin i werthu safleoedd cyn-ysgolion er mwyn buddsoddi mewn safleoedd newydd. Yn yr achos hwn, dyma fyddai cyfraniad yr Eglwys yng Nghymru tuag at ysgol wirfoddol a reolir. Mae Esgobaeth Llanelwy’n methu deall pam na fase Cyngor Gwynedd am fanteisio ar yr arian hwn.

Esgobaethau Llanelwy a Bangor ydy cyd-ddarparwyr, ynghyd â Chyngor Gwynedd, y ddarpariaeth addysg yn Ne Meirionnydd. Mae Esgobaeth Llanelwy wedi gweithio mewn partneriaeth â Chyngor Gwynedd ar y prosiect hwn yn Y Bala er mwyn sicrhau ei fod yn sensitif i iaith a thraddodiadau Cristnogol yr ardal.

Yn ei holl ohebiaeth gyda Chyngor Gwynedd, mae Esgobaeth Llanelwy wedi pwysleisio’i dymuniad i weithio ar y cyd ac wedi gofyn droeon i gael cyfarfod â swyddogion. Dydy Esgobaeth Llanelwy ddim yn deall pam na fu hyn yn bosib.

Mae’r Eglwys yng Nghymru bellach yn annog Cyngor Gwynedd yn daer, i gyfarfod ag Esgobaeth Llanelwy ar y cyfle cyntaf yr wythnos hon, er mwyn datrys y camddealltwriaeth hwn, fel y gall pawb ohonon ni ailgyfeirio’n ffocws at gyflwyno prosiect llwyddiannus i bobl ifanc a chymuned Y Bala.
