Talks at St Mary’s Well, Cefn

Saints and Shrines of the Diocese of St Asaph

To help celebrate the Diocesan Year of Pilgrimage a series of events has been arranged in and around St Mary’s Well, (Ffynnon Fair) & chapel in Wigfair, Cefn.

Tristan Gray Hulse, a leading authority on ancient wells in Wales, will give a series of talks on the subject, “Saints & Shrines of the Diocese of St. Asaph”. Each talk will be on a different theme relating to the main subject.

Here are the events planned so far – more details will be added later in the year.

PROGRAMME OF EVENTS

MONDAY 6 MAY 2013 – 9.00 am

Pilgrims from the North Wales Pilgrim’s Way leave St. Asaph and walk to Cefn enroute to Bardsey Island .

11.00 am

NEUADD OWEN VILLAGE HALL

First talk in series by Tristan Gray Hulse. The first part of the talk will last approximately 45 minutes and will be followed by a spring walk through the ancient woods of Cefn to the River Elwy, walking a short distance along the river walkway and finishing at St Mary’s well. Here Tristan will conclude his talk (approximately 15 minutes).

The walk will take between 45– 60 minutes and anyone not wanting to attend the talk, but would like to walk to St. Mary’s well from Neuadd Owen can do so between 1.00 pm and 4.00 pm

CRAFT FAIR

A variety of Craft Stalls from around the area.

Light refreshments will be available in the Neuadd Owen from 10.30 a.m. – 4.30 p.m.

FRIDAY 12 JULy

TALK and CHEESE & WINE EVENING – 7.00 pm

NEUADD OWEN VILLAGE HALL

Second in the series of talks by Tristan Gray Hulse. The talk will last approximately 1 hour and will include cheese & wine.

SUNDAY 18 AUGUST

TALK, WALK & SERVICE – 2.00 pm

NEUADD OWEN VILLAGE HALL

Third in the series of talks, followed by a walk similar to that of 6 May to St Mary’s well & chapel, where a short service will take place.

Tickets for the talk – £2.00 per person. Numbers are limited and pre booking is advisable on 01745 540345.

Refreshments will be available in the Neuadd Owen from 2.00 pm – 5.00 p.m.

The fourth talk in the series by Tristan Gray-Hulse. Details of this and the final two talks in the series will follow later in the year.

Please note:

St. Mary’s well & chapel is on private land and is not usually accessible to the public – neither is the walk through Cefn woods. The above dates are a rare opportunity to enjoy the beauty and tranquillity of these places.

There are good facilities at the Neuadd Owen Village Hall, including parking. All events will commence & conclude here, including the stamping of “Well Passports”.
