Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme
As you know the Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme (the grant scheme that pays the equivalent of VAT on repairs to listed buildings) was saved from the cuts last October. Predictably perhaps, the rules for claiming grant have changed and details can be found by clicking here.
Basically, grants will now be paid out on a quarterly basis and depending on the number of claims in any one quarter the actual percentage of grant may vary up to 20%.
This has all been done to ensure that the government department’s budget is not exceeded, even though it introduces uncertainty and delays for parishes. We have made strong representations on this but sadly to no avail.
Parishes will have to build in a contingency against not receiving the full grant under this scheme and allow something for the cash flow implications of having to wait until the end of a quarter to get any grant.
