Children and Family Worker for Penedeyrn Mission Area

Closing date: 29 January 2018

Penedeyrn Mission Area, part of the Diocese of St Asaph, consists of active churches in Cerrigydrudion, Bala, Maerdy, Llandderfel, Llandrillo, Cynwyd, Llanfihangel Glyn Myfyr and the communities of Llawrybetws, Pentrefoelas, Betws Gwerfil Goch and Ysbyty Ifan where the church buildings have closed. The Mission Area is rural and Welsh speaking.

The churches increasingly endeavour to work with the chapels which are experiencing small and elderly congregations. However, ecumenical work is active in the schools in the area and this is particularly important in those communities without an active church or chapel. Godly Play, Messy Church, After school clubs and Family Services encourage families and younger people to engage with the churches.

At present there is only one stipendiary minister in the Mission Area supported by four Licensed Lay Ministers. There is a temporary Rector in Bala and a new incumbent is being sought. As well as working with the active churches, it is seen as vital to engage with the schools, chapels and parishioners in the places where the churches have closed.

We offer an opportunity for someone experienced in working with children and families and with a heart for evangelism and ecumenism.
